YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED (HOPEFULLY)
LAX is an English language based co-curricular type of activities which is part of the ELEx package.
Why do I have to do LAX?
Well, you need to accumulate (collect) the required LAX points for graduation purposes.
How many LAXs do I have to do?
That depends on your MUET band, and when you registered as a student with UPM.
Normally it is 24 or 36 LAX points.
Each LAX is worth 6 or 12 points.
Normally you’ll do 4 or 6 6-point LAXs.
The 12-point LAXs are for special cases, and you’ll need to refer to the head of the English Language Proficiency Division of CALC.
What is CALC?
CALC stands for Centre for The Advancement of Language Competence.
It is responsible for all language proficiency courses in UPM. Apart from English, there are Malay, Mandarin, Tamil, German, French, Turkish, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, Thai, Spanish, Persian and Myanmar languages on offer. You can find us here.

There are more than 35 different types of LAXs, and more are being planned. Therefore, there is a variety of activities which would cater to your different interests.
Is there a class for LAX?
No. You and your friends will have to plan and decide, when and how to meet. You will do this in your first meeting. Basically, it is student run activity but you may refer to your Language teacher if you have any issues.
Where do I get more information?
You can go here The Big Lax Blog for all that is related to LAX.
How do I contact my Language teacher and my group members?
Your teacher and group members’ information will be available on PutraBlast.
Finally, why, why, why?
Take LAX with a positive attitude. Take it as a training platform for you to practice English.
Learning a language is like learning Maths or even taking up Silat or Tae Kwon Do. The more you use the language or ability, the better your skills will become.
In addition, you will make new friends and start networking. These, and the above are all unknown positive factors that may help you in the future.
